Abstract
Aims: Intensive Care Unit admits critical patients to be taken care by the best nurses and with the best equipment. Modern equipment with new care techniques have made this unit specialized in caring for the patients admitted. This study has been conducted to identify current standards of intensive care unit and to assess their accordance with the standards of the National Iranian hospitals. Methods: This is a descriptive and retrospective study that has been done in all intensive care units of the hospitals of Isfahan province in 2010. Data collection tool is the National Assessment checklist of hospitals in intensive care units. Checklists have been completed after inspecting, scrutinizing the documents and interviewing. The gathered data was analyzed using SPSS and Excel software. Results: The highest administration of the ICU standards have been in the military hospital with the score of 84/2.University hospitals, half private hospitals, private hospitals and network hospitals have scored 83/6, 83/3, 78/6 and 77/13 respectively. Conclusion: The result of this study shows that military hospital administers higher standards in ICU. This may be due to military discipline and environment or other reasons. Further studies are warranted to find the influencing factors.
