Abstract

Hydroxyapatite (HA) is the most comparable bioceramic to those of natural bone. In this study we produced two types of HA scaffolds as bone substitutes for tissue engineering application. Initially, HA powder was produced using sedimentary method, and then samples simply gel casted and sponge replicated samples were produced. XRD spectroscopy was done to investigate that we have pure HA and pore distribution and percent estimated and mechanical properties of produced scaffolds measured. Pure HA powder used to prepare scaffolds and samples were mechanically investigated after sintering. Mechanical properties of casted samples were better than sponge replicated samples but they have less pore sizes and also less interconnectivity in comparison to sponge replication samples. Further investigations proposed on how differentiate stem cells on these scaffolds as substrates for 3D culturing.
