Abstract
Spirulina platensis is an important microalga which has been cultivated commercially in many tropical countries, sub-tropical and temperate regions in order to feed humans and animals. The cost of the culture medium is containing 15 to 20 percent of its production process. Lower production costs can be a fundamental solution for the high-value production of spirulina. This study investigated the optimization growth of Spirulina as an Iranian species. Samples were isolated from a specific region (North of Iran) and more than 130 culture mediums were studied with different gradients such as temperature, light, PH and essential salts. The results showed the best growth conditions was in culture medium 18 (25 °C, pH=10.5 and light intensity = 3500 LUX) and the dry mass is obtained 40 mg per 100 ml. In this study, the best performance and optimize environmental conditions were achieved for Spirulina platensis. © 2019, Universidad del Zulia. All rights reserved.
