Abstract

Healthy occupation force is the most important force for socio economy development and industry investment. Providing their health would promote their efficacy. The current research, therefore, examine the effect of safety education program on the basis of HBM regarding environmental safety on supervisors of a unit constructing cement factory. A Quasi experimental study through a before and after method were conducted to examine the effect of a safety education program. 34 supervisors working in a unit constructing a Cement Factory were selected through a simplified sampling technique. To collect the data a questionnaire including 30 questions (6 questions for each part of HBM named; benefits, barriers, perceived severity and sensitivity and cue to action;), a observational form of using personal protection equipment, a form to record were applied. In the second step, according to the collected data from the first step, a HBM based educational intervention was conducted on the supervisors. Finally, one month later, same data was collected and analyzed. According to the finding, prior to educational intervention the means (standard deviation) of perceived severity barriers, and cue to action increased from 12.09 (2/54), 12.59 (1/79) and 11.82, (2.88) to 14.21 (2.37), 14.21 (2.25), and 13.44 (3.025) respectively after the intervention. The increases were statistically significant.using personal protected equipment by labors had an increase by the intervention too. Unsafe cases and repetition rate also were reduced following the applied education. The findings of this investigation indicated the HBM based education will promote the safety of work place environment and health of workers. © EuroJournals Publishing, Inc. 2010.
