Abstract
Aims: Despite ascribed intellectual ability, academic success can be affected by progress motivation. This study assessed role of progress motivation among medical student on academic success. Method: A cross-sectional survey was conducted on 100 medical sciences students of Baqiyatallah university of medical sciences. Students of medical, nursing and health management sciences were included. They fulfilled the author-made questionnaire and Hermance questionnaire. Data were analyzed by SPSS using T-Test, ANOVA and Pearson Correlation and P-value less than 0.05 was considered significant. Result: Out of 100 subjects, 83 were male and 17 were female,78 were single and 22 were married, 83 were medical students and 17 were other medical sciences students. Mean age was 24.2±4.7 years, mean of academic progress motivation according Hermance was 85.2±8 and in male population 85.4±8.1 and female was 84.2±7.5 which has a significant correlation with academic success in married and medical students.(P<0.05) Conclusion: It seems that it can progress in academic success with improving progress motivation, particularly in medical students. Further studies with larger population were suggested for investigating factors which may be effective on relation between academic success and progress motivation.
