Abstract
Acinetobacter baumannii strains have emerged as problematic hospital pathogens, which can survive in healthcare settings and medical devices. Due to biofilm formation ability of A. baumannii and antibiotic resistance, making treatment difficult. This study was performanced in order to investigate the potential of biofilm formation of A. baumannii strains. A total of 120 samples suspected Acinetobacterspp. were collected from burned patients and were assessed by using conventional phenotypic and biochemical tests. Biofilm formation of A. baumannii isolates was evaluated by using crystal violet staining and scanning electron microscopy. Results showed that 100 isolates were A. baumannii that among them, 17 of clinical isolates were weak biofilm producers while 44 and 39 of them were moderate and strong biofilm producers, respectively. It can be concluded that most of A. baumannii isolates can form biofilm and may contribute to its persistence in the hospital environment, increasing the probability of causing nosocomial infections among burned patients.
